Common Washing Machine Problems

Even the most common washing machine problems can be caused by a wide range of issues. Never fear, our Hometown Heroes have the experience and expertise to correctly diagnose your washer on the first visit.

Leaking Water

Water pooling around the washer could be caused by a cracked door seal, a broken drain pump or water inlet valve, or a loose hose. Let an expert determine the root cause and fix it.

Making Noise or Vibrating

Any number of components can wear out or fall out of alignment, including drum bearings, support rollers, drive belts, and motors. Let an expert determine the root cause and fix it.

Not Draining

If your laundry loads come out soaked, the issue could be a clogged filter or pump, a kinked drain hose, or a failing drain pump. Let an expert determine the root cause and fix it.

Error Codes

Error codes can report on control board issues, failed door latch sensors, broken motor controllers, or communication faults. Let an expert determine the root cause and fix it.

How Much Will It Cost?

Washing machine repairs commonly cost between $250 and $500 for parts and labor combined, always quoted up-front from The Appliance Blue Book, the standard price guide used nationwide. For your peace of mind, we would love to provide an estimate when you call, but we can’t know for a fact what’s wrong until we look at your appliance.

What goes into the cost of service?

1. Diagnostic Fee

The least you’ll pay if you choose not to repair. This flat fee covers scheduling and communication, triage to bring the right parts, travel time and gas, diagnosis, and a repair estimate for you to approve, all for just $149 (except in special circumstances). The fee is included in the repair.

2. Parts & Labor

We use only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts to protect your appliance and your warranty coverage. Not all repairs require new parts: our techs are trained to find and fix the root issue, and they will not change parts unless necessary.

Repairs come with a 3-month guarantee on all labor and parts. In addition to cash and check, we accept: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.

Is there a cheaper option?

Schedule a remote visit for only $49 and we’ll try to help diagnose and fix the issue over the phone. If we can’t, the $49 is applied to the $149 diagnostic fee for us to come out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you add notes for the technician?

Of course, we want our techs to be as informed as possible about your needs and your appliance issues.

How do I find my model and serial number?

It will be in the last place you look, so don’t give up. Check out our article on finding them, and you can text us a picture when you find it.

Do you do emergency repairs after hours or on weekends?

We provide service 5 days a week, from 8am to 5pm, and we’ll do what we can to work you into our schedules earlier if the washer repairs are urgent, such as water leaks.

How long do washing machines commonly last?

Washing machines are expected to last between 10-14 years on average. Individual components will wear out over time: some are easy to replace, others require significantly more expensive repairs.

Is it worth it to repair my washer or should I just replace it?

Every repair costs far less than buying and installing a new washing machine and paying to dispose of the old model. Buying new appliances also eats up more of your time and has a greater environmental cost. That said, there comes a time when our technicians will recommend replacing: when the parts are no longer in production or we cannot guarantee the repair to last given the overall state of the washer.
